Mission: The mission of YouthBuild Boston Inc. (YBB) is to improve opportunities for the young people of Boston by teaching skills that will equip them to support themselves and help develop personal and neighborhood responsibility.

YouthBuild Boston (YBB) offers four programs: The Construction Training Program, Project Advantage, The Neighborhood Technology and Training Program, and The After School Program.

Construction Training is a program that teaches 18-24 year olds how to renovate abandoned buildings into affordable housing for low-income families. Activities take place at both the school site and the work site.

Academics, vocational training, life skills and counseling takes place at the school site. Students can pursue a GED or high school diploma through the External Diploma Program of the Boston Public Schools. The diploma is granted through Boston Central Adult High School. Students learn theory and core construction skills in YouthBuild Boston's vocational education facilities. Life skills including finance and budgeting, goal setting, resume writing, interview skills, and problem-solving techniques are emphasized. Staff provides one-on-one counseling to personalize goal setting, identify barriers to success, and help participants overcome challenges.

Students put theory into practice and perform community service hours as AmeriCorps members at the work site. Under the tutelage of three construction instructors, students renovate an abandoned property into a habitable dwelling for low-income first time homebuyers. Most students are ready to be job-placed, enroll in post-secondary education, and/or join a union within 6-10 months.

Project Advantage is a 6-9 month program tailored to the unique needs of young people ages 16-18. Paramount to the program's success is the full engagement of the parent/guardian in assisting the student with the completion his/her service plan. The initiative focuses on preparing youth for the world of work and independent living in the community. The program combines job and career development, including skills training and work-site visits, with academic preparation for attaining a GED. Upon completion of the program, students are expected to have obtained a GED or improve their grade level, and acquire independent living skills (i.e. obtain a learner's permit or driver's license, open a savings account, and obtain full time employment.)

The Neighborhood Technology and Training Program (NTTP) provides access to the computer technology industry and participation in the resultant resources and wealth. Participants explore career opportunities, gain skills in technology applications and computer repair for future employment, and obtain practical, hands-on training and experience.

The YBB After School Program offers activities in a productive and safe environment to youth ages 7-16.
