Mission: To provide services that will improve the lives of students and strengthen the community as a whole by empowering them academically and socially so that they may in turn give back to their community.

The Log School offers a GED preparation program for at-risk, high-risk and other youth interested in obtaining their GED. Founded by Joe Carpineto in 1974, The Log School is a settlement house which offers an array of educational and social services. The goal of our dedicated staff is to provide services that will improve the lives of local residents and strengthen the community as a whole by implementing programs based on changing neighborhood needs.

The GED program at The Log School seeks to instill students with a sense of community and belonging through small class sizes and individual attention. In addition to working with youth academically, life skills classes and one-on-one conversations are offered to assist young adults in making good life decisions. Students build computer and soft skills in order to enhance their employment opportunities. It is our desire to offer as much support and as many services as possible. We therefore collaborate with multiple agencies, such as the Private Industry Council, the Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses, Inc., Boston Youth Service Network, the Department of Social Services and the Department of Youth Services to serve our students in a holistic and comprehensive way.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Students ages 16-21 from any neighborhood in Boston can enroll in classes. Instruction is available daily at all skill levels.

Students can be referred to The Log School by their former schools or any agency or program in which they currently participate. Interested students may also call to enroll themselves. Potential students will visit the school to fill out an application and take the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) to determine academic strengths and areas that need further study.

The program is free for all students. Scholarships for the GED test fee are available.
